Diabetic Eye Disease Awareness Month

Diabetic eye disease can have no warning signs, so it’s vital to find and treat it early, before it causes vision loss. If you have diabetes, you should visit your eye doctor for a dilated eye examination at least once a year.

High blood sugar can lead to cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. According to the National Eye Institute, diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in adults ages 20–74. The longer a person has diabetes, the greater the risk is of developing diabetic eye disease.
