Meet Benjamin L. Whittredge, O.D.
Dr. Whittredge is a native of Hutchinson and graduated from Buhler High School before studying Ecology at the University of Kansas. Following 4 years of undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas, Dr. Whittredge attended Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington, Indiana on a Naval Health Professions Scholarship. While in Indiana, he completed his undergraduate work and attended four years of optometry school. Dr. Whittredge performed external clinical rotations during the 4th year of optometry school, including a 3 month rotation in central Mexico at Guanajuato Eye Clinic.
Following graduation from optometry school, Dr. Whittredge served 4 years as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Naval Health Clinic Charleston located in Charleston, South Carolina. While on active duty, he was awarded medals for Outstanding Volunteer Service for efforts with VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) and the Lions Club, as well as the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for productivity and leadership in the clinic. Also while on active duty, he was nominated for Charleston’s Health Care Hero’s award, and Federal Service Employee of the Year. He is currently serving as President of the VOSH Kansas Chapter.
After 4 years on active duty, Dr. Whittredge went into private practice in Indiana. Almost two years later, he relocated back home to Hutchinson and joined the practice of Drs. Ball and Hansen. Dr. Whittredge is married to Amy, and he has four children, Alexis, Liliana, William, and Cecelia. He enjoys spending time on the lake, boating and wakeboarding in the summer, and he also likes to prepare gourmet meals at home.
